80's ski day at Whistler

It's that time of year again - 80's Ski Day is back for it's third year. This time a little early due to Rich and I's little road trip - Meg kindly moved things forward a week or two for us :) Thanks also to Meg for most of these photos :)

Here we are, in the midst of gearing up - I for one do not have all my stuff on in the pic - see if YOU can spot the difference further down....

With Rich rolling out the obscene colours, it was Meg's turn to rock the jeans this year - nice skin tight ones with some flowery thing going on amongst the bleachedness. She's also wearing an authentic "Bulls" jacket and suitably unmatchy purple headband. You can also just make out the scary makeup!!

Here's the group - some classic and undoubtedly timeless looks here(?!)

The 'other' Megan in a very fetching purple flared bomber jacket with elastic cumber-waist thing - shows off yer bum nicely ;-)

and the more casual sleeveless look, again with timeless headband and the high ponytail

and here I am. in a look very similar to last year but turned up a notch with the one-piece suit, mirrored glasses and authentic Sony Walkman - complete with Belinda Carlisle tape - I knew it was working for me when we got to the top of the first lift and I was immediately interviewed on video by some tourists! Ah, 80's Ski Day.

Of course, we take it very seriously and none more so than at the Pontiac Race Centre - atwin timed slalom courses open to the public.

Here's Rich and I lining up for the final.... just look at Rich's race face - he wants it - bad!

and they're off! Unfortunately Rich is very sensitive so half way down the course I faked a big crash to let him win - sometimes you gotta take one for the team ;-)

...and our hostess, Mega Meg - I forget who she was racing but she too faked a crash to protect a precious ego ;-)

....and that bobble hat - beautiful!

I didnt get a photo but lunch was a pretty special time for us - there was a famous hockey player sitting at the next table and he just couldnt stop staring - how rude! ;)

As we wrapped things up after a beautiful day on the mountain we watched an extreme ski/board comp - not the best conditions for it - quite hard and icy up top but they were still sending it pretty big.

So what did we learn today? Well, firstly true style is timeless - these outfits had people staring with envy. Secondly, sun glasses are not the optimal eyewear for 50mph on skis. Thirdly - despite feeling naked, you get a lot of admiring looks if you wear tight pants! And lastly ski-gear doesnt have to be expensive - my one-piece suit cost $5.25 from Value Village - Bargain!!!!!!!!!!
